A crime can have multiple and lasting impacts on an individual and their family, not only physically, but emotionally, financially, legally or otherwise. These and other constraints may hinder victims in understanding and utilizing the criminal justice system, exercising their rights under the law, and accessing services necessary for recovery. A Crime Victim Liaison can help alleviate some of these burdens by acting as an overall advocate for the victim.
Our Crime Victim Liaison works closely with victims and/ or their families to provide the following:
- Assistance in applying for and filing Crime Victims' Compensation (CVC)
- Crisis intervention and counseling
- Safety planning, including referrals to family violence shelters
- Guidance through the criminal justice system
- Assistance obtaining Emergency and Permanent Protective Orders
- Referrals to appropriate social service agencies for financial and legal assistance.
- Court accompaniment for PPO hearings and Grand Jury subpoenas
Victims' Assistance is provided free of charge and includes education regarding abuse, violence and safety.
