The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is an innovative addition to the Victims' Assistance Program in Plano because it provides on-scene crisis intervention services to people victimized by domestic violence crimes and follow-up contact by the Crime Victim Liaison for those who need assistance beyond the initial on-scene response.
The first contact a person victimized by violence has after a crime is generally with a police officer. The patrol officer's primary responsibility is investigation and enforcement. Because they may be called to other incidents, their time with a one victimized by crime or violence can be limited. Therefore, CRT volunteers bridge the gap to provide emotional support and resources for those affected in a time-sensitive manner.
The CRT volunteer works with the person who was victimized and other agencies by providing a comprehensive chain of services to that person. Staff and volunteers work closely with a number of different types of service providers including the police department, the justice system, counselors, shelter programs, programs for at-risk youth, local charities, attorneys and other services / programs / agencies.
