This is a sixteen hour, multi-family educational program offered to youth in trouble with the law for the first time. It requires attendance by the youth and at least one parent (or guardian) at all sessions. Participants can be referred by:
- Police Department
- Fire Department
- Probation Department
- Schools
- Attorneys
- Churches
- Counselors
- Concerned Parents and/or Family Members
Program Components
- Initial Assessment ~ A family assessment is required before entering the First Offender Program. This assessment is conducted by Licensed Professional Counselors or Masters Level Practicum students. During this time, the family will have an opportunity to talk with the counselor as a family and individually. This assessment may be scheduled at the same time class registration is completed.
- Formal Class ~ The core of this program is an eight-hour class held either on a single Saturday or on four consecutive Tuesday evenings each month. Class topics are listed below.
- Counseling ~ The final component of this program is six sessions of counseling that may be conducted either following the Formal Class or during the process of the class depending on whether the Saturday or consecutive Tuesday option is selected.
